Bluelake triathlon 2008

I competed yesterday in the BlueLake triathlon. I did this same tri last year, but did the "try-it" version, which has a shorter swim, only a quarter mile, and is intended for newbies to see if they like tri's. This year I did the sprint, which has a half mile swim. The bike is 13 miles, and the run is 3 miles.

I thought I did okay, but after getting the results back this morning I was less than impressed. But the thing about this sport is that it is fun, engaging, excellent for one's health, and I love the atmosphere on race-day. So much positive energy floating around and people who are excited to have fun and kick some butt.

My results are available here, on the RaceCenter site: racecenter.com. But I've summarized them below, showing me, the fastest and slowest, and where applicable my previous race times. The overall and swim don't compare because of the "try-it" vs "sprint" thing I explained above. I ranked 377/532 overall and 7/13 in my division (fatties under 40.. okay technically they call us "clydesdales". SHEEZ)

Ok Cuz. First of all don't look at the ranking, look at the times. You did GREAT!!!!!!!!!!! You were faster in all parts and no where close to the slowest. The fact that you did is the SHIZ!! LOL you still need to learn how to get on a bike however. You know wheels down handlebars in frount, butt on seat. You the MAN no matter what!

Yeah you're right. That bike transition time has to come down.

Dustin- you did awesome! Congrats. There is no reason to downplay these results. Remember, you're doing something that less than 1% of the country is willing to try. Hats off to you! And me I suppose too. :)

you so totally rock! you improved on every aspect of the tri! that is a great result! those transitions really can make or break your overall! it is amazing to see how fast some of the hardcore guys can transition!

your swim is awesome! that wetsuit must truly be magic, that is if you really were as bad as you said you were before getting the suit!??

so proud of you!

Hey, you are AWESOME! Congradulations! the "fatties under 40" are people like me who didn't participate. I'm just impressed you finished and you weren't last. Good Job.

Dustin, as I am following links from other blogs, I came across yours, it is good to see what is going on, congrats on the addition to your family. Also, congrats on your triathlon, they really are fun to do. If you do it again in June I will probably be there too. What an exciting sport to be involved in.
