Visa update

Our application is on its way to the Consulate in Rio de Janeiro. Once it's there, they send a packet to Camila with forms she has to fill out, medical exams she has to get, and police reports she has to request. And the most important thing, her interview date. The interview is the most important step in this process. Once it is over, the consulate glues an invaluable piece of paper (her visa) about 3x4 inches in size, into her passport, stamps it, and she is allowed to enter the US. Trust me, the SECOND that thing is stamped, Camila and I will hop in a freaking taxi and B-LINE it for the airport, where we'll hop on the next flight to Miami!!

Sheez!

So I called the consulate yesterday in my typical wanna-get-a-head-start way, to ask what Camila and I can do to ensure that this part of our journey goes as quickly as possible. I was hoping they would schedule her interview in late May or early June if we had all our ducks in a row.

Nope. Not even close.

Our interview, at the earliest, won't be until the middle of July. As I listened to the brazilian girl who was attending my call drop these words on me as casually as one might tell me the price of Minute-rice on isle 5, several colorful and distasteful words floated up my throat and into my mouth cavity. Fortunately I kept my mouth cavity shut.

At first this really bummed me out. I'm talkin', R-E-A-L-L-Y bummed. But then I realized that at least now, we have a target date. That's 10 weeks away. We can survive another 10 weeks. And we can start planning our life together now that we know a sort-of-date.

I'll post more about this when our sort-of-date becomes less squishy.

3 friends had this to say...:

Excellent news! A date, even if it is 10 weeks away, is better than uncertainty any day. We are all looking forward to meeting Camila this summer!

BTW - I took the DJ and four of his friends wakeboarding Monday night -> 52 F in the water!

Holy crap! Wet suits I take it? That had to be cold water. Bet you had a blast though. I'm D-Y-I-N-G to get out on the river!

As soon as Camila is here (and over her jet lag) we're going to have a 'reception'. I hesitate to bring her to your house because I want her to like our house. :p (hehe)

Exciting news. I agree with Will, at least you have a date to shoot for. All of this reminds me of being pregnant. You kind of wish your life away wanting time to pass extra fast. If we keep busy having a good time she will be here before you know it.
