A Memorial tribute

I posted last month about my Grandfather passing away. A few days later I went home for his funeral. It was amazing, and I came home with a lot of wonderful memories captured on film. But I didn't have time to do much with it until now. With Memorial Day around the corner, I wanted to put it all together into a tribute to my Grandfather, for my family. My Grandfather served in the military, which I didn't know. And as a result he recieved full military honors. I've never seen that before, it was beautiful. And it was great to be surrounded by my family.

To family and those who loved and knew my Grandpa, I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed making it. Before you start the video, you'll want to stop the music in the playlist at the top of the blog, by clicking the pause button.

[NOTE] Since I posted this video, I've received a lot of feedback about the pic of the little girl at the side of the casket holding Grandpa. It's such a touching picture, and there is an equally touching story behind it. That is my neice Kennadee. She loved my grandfather and would climb up in his lap, or after he became bed-ridden in the days before his death, into his hospital bed with him. She would say, "Grandpa, I'm your little democrat, remember?". He called her that for some reason that I still don't know.

My sister Amy, Kennadee's mom, took this pic with her camera phone. Kennadee wanted to hug Grandpa, and probably would have climbed up into the casket with him if we had let her. She just stood there like that for the longest time, saying goodbye as only a child can. I get a lump in my throat every time I get to that part of the video.

9 friends had this to say...:

Dustin,

I am honored to have been a part of creating the casket for your Grandfather. A fitting tribute to a man who served his family and country.

Dad & I love this tribute so much that we leave it open all day and watch it as often as we want to. Many times it's Dad who says, "Let's play it again." You captured the very heart of our family and we're thankful that you took the time to build Grandpa's casket and make this tribute for him.
Love,Mom

The reason that Grandpa called Kennadee his little Democrat is Pres. Kennedy was a Democrat and Grandpa was a Republican.

Dustin,

Thank you for creating the video. I started to watch it but the emotions that came up were to strong and I had to stop. I think it's a little to fresh for me. I miss him so bad. Maybe when I'm home and not at work it will be easier for me to watch. Thank you for doing this.
